 BASIC FACTS
-St. Mont Michel is located in Normandy, France on the Gulf of Saint Malo near Avranches.
-Founded in 708 by Saint Aubert, bishop of Avranches.
-Dedicated to the Archangel Michael
-It's a Romanesque cathedral with a Benedictine abbey.
-The design of the cathedral was created by  William de Volpiano.
-It is linked to the shore by a natural land bridge.
-The cathedral is made of limestone and granite and stands on pure granite that is cone shaped with many crypts and chambers that supports its base.
-The facade of the cathedral was made by Robert de Thorigny.

-The island stands 240 feet above sea level on an almost circular island.
-The cathedral has been burned by fire many times throughout its history.
-It used to be a prison during the French Revolution
-Known as a magnificent feat of Gothic architecture.
-The population of people living there is just over 40.
