RELICS

According to tradition, Chartres housed the Tunic of the Blessed Virgin Mary also known as the Sancta camisia since 876. It was said that this relic was given to Chartres by Charlemagne when he visited Jerusalem. This relic made Chartres a very important cathedral.

In 1204 Chartres received a relic that was the head of St. Ann which was probably used to honor the statue of her in the north portal. The relic was found in the city of Constantinople which is present day Istanbul, Turkey.
