Architecture

Amiens is a great example of Gothic architecture. It is composed of the pointed arches, flying buttresses, gargoyles, and a beautiful rose window. Besides the traditional gothic aspects, the cathedral is enhanced with a labyrinth and detailed scuptures.
On the exterior there are four pointed archways over the entrances. Inside each of the archways are hundreds of small sculptures depicting saints, gospel writers, and Jesus. These are alos called portals.  The left one is devoted to St. Fermin, Amiens's saint. The right portal was created for the Virgin Mother. The middle portal is dedicated to Jesus and The Last Judgement, thus it's called the Last Judgement Portal.
On the front of the cathedral you can see the rose window and the two uneven towers which Amiens is known for. Gargoyles are perched on corners and edges to ward off evil. Everything points upward directing our vision towards God and Amiens is built in the shape of a cross. Out of all the cathedrals in France, Amiens is the tallest.
On the interior, Amiens has a nave with a height of 42.3 meters, a length of 133.5, and 126 pillars. It has a unique labyrinth where people take a spiritual journey to find themseelves and God. There are high arched ceilings that meet in a point and long stained glass windows.
