Labyrinths are viewed as a journey to find ourselves or as a religious course to our center. This is the purpose of the labyrinth in Amiens.  Despite the common belief that labyrinths and mazes are the same, they aren't. Mazes are puzzles with multiples paths and twists while labyrinths have one direct path. Mazes are more of a game, while labyrinths have religious purpose.

The original labyrinth was created by Renaud de Cormont in 1288 and had the architects' names inscribed in it. During the Revolution, though it was destroyed. The labyrinth in Amiens Cathedral today is a replica of the original. Its an octagonal labyrinth and is the second largest one in France. It is 240 meters long and the stone in the center has pictures of  Bishop Edvrard and the first three architects on it.
